Bronze bars around the globe denote the equatorial and tropical lines.
Taken from the first line of Horace Book 1 Ode XXVIII, the Latin reads "Te maris et terrae numeroque carentis arenae Mensorem", which translates as "'Twas thine to track the Ocean's endless round, each distant shore, and earth's extremest bound".
David Harber provided Holifields with the words, size of lettering and type face.
It was then the Abingdon subcontractor's responsibility to import the phrase into its CAD/CAM system and prepare a program to profile each letter from 4 mm thick copper on one of its Flow CNC water jet cutting machines.
David Harber Sundials (www.davidharbersundials.com) has specialised in hand-crafting all types of bespoke and non-customised sundials since 1993, when actor Jeremy Irons happened to pass the workshop near Henley-on-Thames and bought the first example that David had made on spec.
Since then he has made hundreds of sundials for customers around the world, from celebrities to multinational companies.
