Rollers keep the cables laying

A Brauer product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Oct 14, 2004

HMC Brauer's heavy duty rollers are an essential component in the umbilical laying solutions offered by Caley Ocean Systems.

Caley is an engineering business based in East Kilbride, Scotland, whose expertise is primarily in offshore and marine industries, for example in designing, manufacturing and supplying the very latest in submarine umbilical laying machinery, which is the situation in which HMC Brauer's heavy duty rollers have been used.

In this particular instance, the carousels, which are positioned fore and aft on a supply vessel, transfer umbilical to a laying vessel.

During this process the carousels rotate on circular bases on over 150 roller assemblies, each of which weighs approximately half a tonne and each of which is unique, specially manufactured by HMC Brauer to Caley's exacting specification.

Naturally it is essential that the entire mechanism operates smoothly and efficiently even in testing off-shore conditions and Brauer's expertise in this area has enabled it to integrate a series of special features into the roller assemblies to provide Caley, and its end customer, with the required solution.
