Lubricant improves metal cutting finish, tool life
The high performance and non-staining characteristics characterise a cutting lubricant that uses chlorine-free high performance lubricity agents to give superior surface finish.
Phase Control coolants have so far been restricted to large central systems but Houghton have now launched Hocut 3450, their latest high lubricity single phase soluble oil based on the same renewable vegetable oil technology.
Hocut 3450 harnesses Phase Control's powerful performance features for use in stand alone machines.
The vegetable technology ensures high machining performance while at the same time offering the environmental advantages of renewable base oils.
Vegetable oils are also safer for operators with their lower toxicity and lower misting tendency compared to mineral oil.
Tests against leading high lubricity types such as high oil and synthetic ester content solubles and standard vegetable ester products show higher load carrying lubricity properties.
Lab tests also show better filterability, much better emulsion stability and will allow compliance with new HSE guidelines for mist and bacteria control.
The product is also very low foaming and has operated successfully at 70bar pressure in soft water applications.
These properties are of prime importance in today's high pressure, high speed coolant applications.
Other key features of the new product include a special antioxidant package to ensure long life and freedom from tacky residues.
Hocut 3450 can be used to machine a wide range of difficult materials including high tensile steel, aluminium, nickel alloys and titanium.
Roy Ferrington, marketing manager at Houghton commented: "Hocut 3450 is our latest enhanced vegetable oil technology aimed at users who want to minimise their tooling costs by selecting one of the highest lubricity products currently on the market." Houghton offers a complete package of products, service, equipment and expertise and is one of the worlds leading suppliers of industrial production lubricants and fluid management services.
