Alloy machining coolant resists hard water

A Houghton Plc product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Mar 30, 2007

Fully protected against aluminium staining, a long-life coolant ideal for machining aerospace alloys as well as titanium, steel and cast iron and remains clean and stable in the hardest of waters.

Hocut 870 is the latest addition to Houghton's very successful Hocut 800 range of long-life coolants.

The product is fully protected against aluminium staining, making it ideal for machining aerospace alloys as well as titanium, steel and cast iron.

Hocut 870 has EADS approval and has been laboratory tested against all commonly used aerospace aluminium types.

Many water-based coolants fail when used in hard water areas due to instability, corrosion or sticky soap deposits.

Problems are caused by water evaporation leaving calcium and magnesium salts to build up in the coolant.

It is this salt build up that eventually destabilises emulsions and causes the problems that many areas of the UK especially the South Coast endure.

Hocut 870 is a high lubricity product, especially formulated to remain clean and stable in the hardest of waters without excessive soap formation.

Hocut 870 is based on a high level of oil fortified with synthetic esters to perform a wide range of applications with excellent tool life and surface finish.

Another important feature of Hocut 870 in use is long sump life with freedom from bad odours and excellent pH buffering.

This is especially important in the UK since new HSE guidance for metalworking fluids says that users must protect workers from exposure to bacteria in coolants.

Hocut 870 with an effective fluid management programme helps comply with these new guidelines.

Houghton offers a complete package of products, service, equipment and expertise and is one of the worlds leading suppliers of industrial production lubricants and fluid management services.
