The University of Warwick in Coventry is reducing its plant running costs under a five-year performance-related service contract with Honeywell The contract together with associated capital costs is worth £100,000 a year to Honeywell, but has an added value for the University

The contract covers the university's investment in Honeywell building management systems, which include security and fire systems, across its 292 hectares (720 acres) site.

The University appreciates Honeywell's Optimum Maintenance Strategy (OMS), which focuses on reducing costs.

Honeywell works proactively to optimise systems and so generate energy savings for the University.

Maintenance is prioritised according to a plant criticality template, related to the significance of the activities within each building.

The University was impressed by Honeywell's strategy because it focuses on need, rather than taking the standard "task-based" approach that is common for this type of contract.

"Honeywell provides valuable advice on energy conservation," revealed Rodney Perry, the University's Chief Engineer.

"We meet regularly with Honeywell and discuss where investment would result in further savings for the university.

"We also benefit from regular servicing by Honeywell technicians who fully understand the systems." In addition to routine preventive maintenance and surveys, Honeywell provides 24-hour, 7-day breakdown coverage.

The University of Warwick is one of Britain's leading universities.

It is research-led and is committed to providing undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of the highest quality.

Sited on the southern side of Coventry where the city meets the County of Warwickshire, the University is the place of study for 15,900 undergraduate and postgraduate students and employs more than 3,500 staff across a range of University departments.
