Honeywell Industrial Automation and Control has announced options for modernising the Data Hiway, a previous generation control network widely used by plants in the process industries.
* Paperless recorders - Honeywell said its Minitrend QX and Multitrend SX paperless recorders represent the latest electronic data recording and display technology on the market.
They have a 140mm (5.5in) and 130mm (12in) diagonal screen displays respectively.
They provide reliable, easy to use operation, greater security and more data storage than other models.

* Wireless transmitters - Honeywell XYR 5000 Wireless Transmitters enable process variables to be monitored in areas where traditional hard-wired transmitters are too costly, difficult or time-consuming to implement.
By providing more and better information about the process and assets, they make it easier to improve product quality, reduce costs, maximize uptime and achieve regulatory compliance.
Honeywell XYR 5000 Wireless Transmitters can deliver information easily, flexibly, and affordably from points that are remote, without access to power, difficult to reach, or in hazardous areas.
The range includes transmitters for gauge, absolute and differential pressure, and temperature.
There is also an analogue input interface for adding wireless capabilities to 4-20mA devices and discrete inputs.
Honeywell XYR 5000 transmitters are designed for exposed industrial use, being accurate, reliable, and rugged.
They provide exceptional accuracy of typically +/-0.1% of full-scale reading at reference conditions and feature long battery life (three to five years).
An alarm warns of low-battery condition, and extensive self-checking software and hardware continuously monitor instrument operation.
The instruments avoid signal interference and increase signal security by employing Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technique.
* Corrosion monitoring - the Honeywell SmartCET corrosion transmitter provides online, real-time corrosion information to plant operators and engineers.
The system minimises failures, avoids unplanned downtime and increases run time, so reducing maintenance costs and increasing unit productivity.
By using a 4-20mA signal with a HART protocol, SmartCET interfaces to a plant distributed control system (DCS) or Honeywell Experion process knowledge system (PKS).
SmartCET can give plant operators access to a time-trended general (uniform) corrosion rate, which can be correlated with plant process information.
It can also provide an indication of localized (pitting) corrosion detection.
Localized corrosion is responsible for approximately 70 to 90% of all corrosion-related equipment failures.
