Diamond coated end mills machine
graphite
Roughing and finishing end mills for machining graphite include a diamond coated roughing 4-12mm diameter end mills and 3-fluted solid carbide 2-12mm diameter end mills.
Paul Horn, Germany, introduced new developments right across its range of grooving and precision milling at the recent EMO exhibition in Hannover Major expansion of the DS range of solid carbide high precision milling cutters - including a 0.2mm radius end mill - was accompanied by a myriad of improvements that increase the utility of other ranges, including introduction of a new coating for Supermini and Mini applications

Insert grooving tools halve machining time
Substitution of a machining process using an insert type grooving/slotting cutter has reduced machining time on highly alloyed aerospace components from around 100 hours to 44 hours.
A key introduction for the DS range are roughing and finishing end mills for graphite.
The DSVG diamond coated roughing end mill is available in diameters from 4mm to 12mm, whilst the DSTG 3-fluted solid carbide torus end mill is available in diameters from 2mm to 12mm.
Additions to the DS range of metal milling cutters include new DSMR and DSM roughing end mills with 8, 10 and 12 flutes at 8, 10 and 12mm diameter respectively.

Dedicated tooling benefits sliding head users
Users of sliding head CNC lathes can benefit from using dedicated internal grooving and boring tool holders and adaptors as well as a side turning and part-off system and polygon mill-turning tools.
Milling inserts get deeper into the groove
Standard three tooth milling cutters include a derivative with a reduced diameter boss, allowing interpolative milling of deeper grooves than hitherto.
A new range of DST torus end mills is available as are twin flute 220 degree full radius end mills in diameters from 3.0mm to 12mm.
A 0.2mm diameter full radius micro milling cutter has also been added to the DS range.
Super Mini and Mini introductions include CBN tipped cutters suitable for hard turning in bores from 3mm diameter, a new Mini System 10P with inserts offering up to 3 mm depth of cut within a 10 mm diameter bore, a reinforced version of Super Mini and a new coating, designated TH35, available on all Mini and Super Mini derivatives.
TH35 is a titanium aluminium nitride coating whose major benefit is prevention of built-up edge.
The coating is also developed to provide an extremely smooth cutting edge.
As a result, tool life is improved and as-machined finish also benefits which can reduce the number of machining operations required.
Horn's range of groove milling tools has been expanded with addition of the Type 335 insert, which has maximum cutting edge diameter of 34.7mm.
Type 335 fills a gap between the Type 332 (27.7mm diameter) and Type 380 (44 mm diamer, multi-insert) The new inserts also benefit from a new asymmetric rear location profile.
This improves torque transmission and reduces forces acting to loosen the central locking screw, and is also now available on Type 322 and 332 inserts.
Other introductions at EMO included specialised System 224 tooling and inserts for generation of full radius internal and external corner reliefs, a new range of M310 slotting cutters with diameters from 80mm to 200mm, and additions to the range of Swiss type sliding head tooling.
