Machining subcontractor reports significant increases in contracts from the UK motorsport sector, which has resulted in the placement of a GBP 160,000 order for a Citizen M32-V CNC sliding head auto.

HPC Services of Ilkeston has been 'riding the crest of a wave' with significant increases in contracts from the UK motorsport sector which has resulted in the placement of a GBP 160,000 order to NC Engineering of Watford, UK, for a Citizen M32-V CNC sliding head auto for turn/milling complex components in a single hit machining cycle.

The new Citizen machine, which features a bar feed with integrated gantry unloading for higher production efficiency and control to prevent damage over many of the parts that have critical surface finish requirements.

The machine also has two Y-axis crossfeeds, one to the turret and the other to the tool slide, which provides optimised setting and machining efficiency with the ability to cut with three tools at the same time.

Said managing director Paul Cobb: "Almost every new job from this important sector falls right into the capability of the Citizen M32.

The flexibility of the machine is ideal for fast changeovers, enables us to arrange set ups around standard tooling and generate very fast and accurate single operation cycles." The new machine will be the tenth Citizen to be installed at the Ilkeston factory alongside two Citizen L20s, four Citizen L32s and three Citizen M32s.

The last M32 was only installed in October, following delivery and commissioning within just 10 days of order against a massive contract to produce for very complex stainless steel body components.

"We were totally full with sliding head capacity so an additional machine was the best solution," maintained Cobb.

"You need to be confident to invest to provide customers the service and support they need and we are due to our excellent order book.

Today, it is very definitely multi-axis solutions that customers are looking for whether for turning or milling and that's the future of our business," he said.
