A Preston-based supplier of total component management systems to manufacturing industries has secured its place as an industry leader following a record year Henry Halstead, based at the Walton Summit Centre in Bamber Bridge, has won five significant new contracts in a year, which has seen sales increase by 14.5%

New contracts include The Swift Group, the UK's largest manufacturer of motorhomes and touring caravans, The Explorer Group, another leading UK motorhome manufacturer and Willerby Holiday Homes, the UK's largest manufacturer of static holiday homes.

The firm also secured additional new business from the Baxi Group and Legend Gas Fires.

Henry Halstead, which employs 63 people at its sites in Preston and Sunderland, was originally formed from a manufacturing base in 1880 but moved into distribution in the early 1970s.

Sourcing parts worldwide, Henry Halstead supplies over 40,000 components, fasteners and consumables via its Kanban system.

The Japanese-originated Kanban system is a simple purpose built stock control system.

Parts are stocked in bins to exact customer orders and are replenished through an automated system managed by Halstead's support team.

Speaking on its successful year, managing director, Mike McHugh, said: "We are delighted to report on a year of excellent progress.

Our footprint in terms of the industries we serve and the territory we cover is growing larger.

"UK manufacturing remains under intense cost pressures from competitors in other countries and the strong pound.

We help our customers meet that challenge not only by providing high quality goods at competitive prices but by providing unrivalled levels of service.

"The current financial year has started briskly with activity levels in the first few weeks well ahead of the previous year.

In the absence of unforeseen events we anticipate a year of further progress." Other Henry Halstead clients include Stoves, Dennis Eagle, Alstom, Marconi and Silentnight.
