Ultrasonic sensor measures web diameter
Compared with standard potentiometer braking systems an ultrasonic sensor for measuring web diameter is easier to use, has no moving parts and is less vulnerable to dust ingress.
To complement its range of products for tensioning applications, Huco has introduced a new Ultrasonic Sensor for measuring web diameter, a critical element in maintaining constant tension A new addition from Placid Industries - the manufacturers of magnetic particle clutches and brakes for which Huco is the sole UK distributor - this sensor is a superior alternative to standard potentiometer braking systems

Value stream mapping has identified an appropriate development path that will see Huco Dynatork's Oldham misalignment coupling lead times plunge from weeks to days
It is easier to use, more reliable as it has no moving parts and is less vulnerable to dust ingress.
The new Ultrasonic Sensor continuously monitors the profile of the web and outputs this data as a 0 - 10 VDC signal to the Placid power supply so that torque automatically varies as roll-size changes.
Tension is then adjusted by a remotely mounted potentiometer.
With a resolution of 2mm and repeatability of 4mm, the Ultrasonic Sensor is designed to be used both with Placid Brakes for producing unwind or payout tension or Placid Clutches for rewind tension. Request a free brochure from Huco Dynatork ...
