Gas purge shield protects weld
underbeads

A gas purging shield provides repeatable quality inert gas coverage and is particularly suitable for protecting the underbead of welds in stainless steel, titanium and other reactive alloys.

A gas purging shield provides repeatable quality inert gas coverage and is particularly suitable for protecting the underbead of welds in stainless steel, titanium and other reactive alloys Welders have never been short of ideas when it comes to improving performance and offering solutions to the age-old problem of protection of the weld underbead is no exception

Previous ideas, many of them still in current use, include ceramic backing, consumable inserts and glass-fibre tape, but all these have limitations.

Responding to the defined needs of customers requiring a high quality of protection combined with ease of application, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT) has developed an innovative solution based on its successful 'Trailing Shield' concept.

The 'Argweld' 'Purge Shield' provides repeatable quality inert gas coverage and is particularly suitable for protecting the underbead of welds in stainless steel, titanium and other reactive alloys where discolouration is unacceptable.

Designed by HFT engineers Purge Shield can be produced in linear or radiused configurations in lengths to suit specific customer requirements.

Manufactured using an aluminium alloy body fitted with replaceable silicone sealing skirts, inert gas is fed in through industrial standard connections.

The gas then passes through a foraminous insert which induces non turbulent laminar flow to the weld underbead.

The result is a high level of protection against oxidation and other contamination. Request a free brochure from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques ...
