Welding supplier modifies purging
equipment
In response to customer requests, Nomex stitching has been introduced to the re-inforcing band round the central section of purging equipment to provide better thermal resistance.
In quick response to customer requests, Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT) has modified its standard purging products HFT has made changes to its Quick-Purge range of equipment at the request of a major Norwegian fabricator

Backing tape prevents weld failure
Backing tape used in the welding of seams or runs help to prevent weld failures and produce flat, slag-free welds requiring no grinding or backgouging.
Welding equipment maker moves to Wales
Huntingdon Fusion Techniques left its Huntingdon home on December 19 to relocate to larger premises in Burry Port in Carmarthenshire.
Nomex stitching was suggested on the re-inforcing band round the central section to provide better thermal resistance.
Location of the gas exhaust tube has also been changed so that when making welds in vertical pipes the tube could be used for purge gas sampling.
Sampling from the top ensures that all oxygen, being a lower density gas, has been displaced prior to starting to weld.
Responding to feedback from users of HFT's pipe purging systems, the company has now modified the equipment so that it contains a multiple exhaust/inlet facility.
HFT told manufacturingtalk that there are two advantages of this innovative feature.
1 - The exhaust gas is expelled through a pipe sealed into the bladder wall rather than through a tube sandwiched between the bladder and the pipe wall.
This eliminates any possibility of a leak developing at the bladder/tube/pipe wall interface 2 - When additional inert gas is required to compensate for loss through the weld gap as any covering tape is removed the gas flow can be increased.
Continuous exhaust gas monitoring can be realised by using a purge monitor connected directly to the exhaust gas port.
This allows the operator to delay the weld start until the required oxygen level is reached.
With the HFT titanium monitor weld start and stop can be controlled automatically and the results interfaced with a quality control system. Request a free brochure from Huntingdon Fusion Techniques ...
