HFT unveils Argweld inflatable weld purge systems

A Huntingdon Fusion Techniques product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team Jul 2, 2009

Huntingdon Fusion Techniques (HFT), a UK manufacturer of weld purge ancillaries, can now provide heat-resistant inflatable pipe purge systems to weld at temperatures of up to 300C.

It has developed a range of heat-protected Argweld inflatable weld purge systems to suit pipe diameters from 6in to 46in (150mm to 1,150mm) to complement its other ranges for non-heat-treated pipework.

Each system is covered in a high-temperature-resistant material to allow for use at temperatures up to 300C (572F) for 24 hours.

In addition, the spinal hose that connects the two dams and passes argon gas from one to another is covered with bonded, pre-formed mineral wool, which provides thermal insulation.

Weld purging of a weld joint requires connection of the Argweld purge system to an argon hose and the placing of the system into position either side of the weld joint.

The spinal connection hose is long enough for the dams to sit at the outer edge of the pre-heated zone.

After positioning the system, the argon source is opened, the dams inflated and the inter-space purged.

The purge will remain on during pre-heat, welding and any post weld heat treatment required.
