Hurco introduces its first 5-axis VMC

Among the new machines launched by Hurco this year at the EMO machine tool exhibition in Hannover was the company's first ever 5-axis vertical machining centre, designated MXU 40.

Among the new machines launched by Hurco this year at the EMO machine tool exhibition in Hannover was the company's first ever 5-axis vertical machining centre, designated MXU 40, with built-in 360 degree B-axis and -30 / +120 degree A-axis Until now, the fourth and fifth axes on Hurco machines have been provided by an add-on rotary table and indexing head

Ideal for the manufacture of complex parts such as moulds, dies and aerospace components, the machine has a 30 kW / 15,000 rpm spindle motor and an 800 x 800 x 530 mm working envelope.

Rapid traverses in X / Y / Z are 40 / 48 / 48 m/min respectively.

Maximum table load is 500kg.

The magazine accommodates 40 tools of BT40 taper up to 300mm long, 75 mm diameter.

Control system is the patented, Pentium-based, twin-screen Ultimax 4.

New also at the show was a 3-axis vertical machining centre, MXV 40, boasting the same high speed, high power spindle as the MXU 40 but longer axis travels - 1,000 x 800 x 600mm - and the ability to accept components weighing two tonnes.

Most of the remaining specification is the same as for the 5-axis machine.

Completing the high speed line-up was the VMX 50S, a faster version of the VMX 50 introduced at IMTS 2000, Chicago.

Spindle motor is up from 18.75kW / 10,000 rpm to 30 kW / 15,000 rpm, comparable with the new MXU and MXV machines.

All three innovations at the show were pre-production models; volume manufacture will start mid 2002 and availability in the UK through High Wycombe subsidiary, Hurco Europe, will be towards the end of the year.

The other machines exhibited ranged from the smallest VMX 24 vertical machining centre with a 760 x 510 x 610mm working envelope up to the 1,625 x 860 x 760mm VMX 64.

Orders taken on the stand totalled 30, making this the best ever EMO for the company. Request a free brochure from Hurco Europe ...
