Probe software reduces setting time, cuts scrap
Reduced setting times, less scrap, increased production output and higher component accuracy are some of the benefits claimed by Hurco Europe for its conversational probing software.
Linear motor machining centre runs at speed
A new, high-speed machining centre with an 800 x 750 x 500 mm working envelope has been introduced by Hurco Europe, under its new agency agreement with Roeders.
It was a particular focus at the show, with partner CAM company, Open Mind, demonstrating its hyperMILL software to explain the benefits of 4- and 5-axis simultaneous machining.
Extending the 5-axis theme, a 3-axis Hurco VM2 machining centre was fitted with a 2-axis CNC table to show how shop-floor, conversational, 5-sided programming may be carried out at the machines Ultimax control.
It is made possible by a function called ?transform part zero that automatically keeps track of a single program zero point as the part is rotated through various angles and planes.
Other highlights at the show were high-speed cutting at 15,000 rev/min/15m/min, tool and part set-up using touch and laser probing, direct use of DXF files and Fanuc-style programs by the Ultimax control, wireless networking, and Windows-based CAM functionality at minimal cost on the second screen of the control, sitting alongside the colour text LCD touch-screen.
Customers were from a mix of industries, including aerospace, motorsport and general subcontracting.
The open house orders have contributed to a good start to Hurco Europes 2005 fiscal year, which started on 1st November.
Managing director, David Waghorn, confirmed that the worldwide group made US$6.27 million profit in fiscal 2004.
Share price mid-year was at a high of US$19.5 compared with a low of 90 cents at the end of 2002.
Output from the Hurco factory has increased by 40 per cent year-on-year since 2001.
In the UK, turnover was up 20 per cent on fiscal 2003 and warranty claims were 25 per cent lower, indicating the success of the groups on-going quality improvement programme.
As for 2005, Waghorn said that a major launch in April would be the addition of three lathes to the Hurco range, which until now has comprised exclusively machining centres.
Two new VMCs will be introduced at the same time.
Applications and service engineers will be recruited in the New Year to reflect the entry into turning and the higher level of overall business. Request free introductory details about products from Hurco Europe ...
