Larger VMC machines multiple set-ups

For rotary-table and multiple vice set-ups, Hurco Europe has extended its VM VMC size range, adding 25% in X-axis travel, yet maintaining a compact machine 'footprint'.

A vertical spindle machining centre has been added to the top end of the VM series offered by Hurco Europe and now comprises three models The new VM3 has the largest machining envelope at 1270 x 457 x 457mm, representing a 25% increase in X-axis travel

Multiple vice/rotary table set-ups are therefore a forte of the machine, as was demonstrated at the company's open house in High Wycombe this week.

Occupying just 2.5 x 1.9m of factory space, the machine has a 15kW/8,000 rev/min (optionally 10,000 rev/min) spindle capable of high metal removal rates.

Installed weight of the machine is well over four tonnes, which together with the quoted +/-0.005mm positioning accuracy and +/-0.0025mm repeatability allows high machined tolerances to be held.

Rapid traverse rates of 19m/min contribute to high productivity, as does the 16-station swing-arm ATC that exchanges adjacent 40-taper tools in 2.5 seconds.

Optionally available are flood coolant, chip auger with evacuation tray, and competitively priced DIN tooling packs.

Controlling the machine is Hurco's 'Max' single-screen CNC which boasts a slimline touch-screen colour LCD.

Conversational programming with scalable graphics is provided, as are most of the features associated with Hurco's, twin-screen Ultimax 4 CNC system, which is an option on the VM3.

A modular series of additional packages allows hard drive capacity to be doubled to 2GB and the 8MB of RAM to be increased to 256MB, while other upgrades include verification graphics, remote jog and a compact keyboard.

Software options are equally extensive.

They include high speed profiling, pocket milling with helical ramp entry and island avoidance, direct DXF file translation, 3D mould software for creating three-dimensional parts from two-dimensional open contours, the Ultinet data communications interface, and conversational tool and part probing.
