Centre lathes equipped with advanced
DROs
UK school, in having its 30-year-old Colchester lathes rebuilt specified Heidenhain menu-driven, 780 digital read-out units, which have comprehensive tool tables.
When assistant head teacher and head of Technology, Paul Mortimer of Whitgift School in Grimsby, UK, approached Halifax Numerical Controls (HNC) to rebuild four of the school's 30 year old lathes, two Colchester Students and two Harrison 140s, he specified powerful Heidenhain model 780 digital read-out (DRO) units HNC said that the 780 is the latest in DRO technology with the following features

HNC refurbished the centre lathes and fitted interlocked sliding chuck guards and lead screw covers to bring the machines into line with current safety regulations.
