On-line viscometer optimises polyol
production

Hydramotion's XL7 on-line viscometers, for controlling the production of polyols, used in sweeteners, pharmaceuticals, paints, adhesives and plastic foams, are relied upon by industry.

On-line viscosity measurement systems from Hydramotion are playing a key role in controlling the production of polyols, a special group of chemical compounds used extensively in such diverse products as sweeteners, pharmaceuticals, paints, adhesives and plastic foams The size of the polymer molecules has a direct bearing on the viscosity, making it an ideal parameter for controlling synthesis

By constantly monitoring viscosity in real time, operators can precisely determine the optimum moment to stop the reaction.

One large chemical producer relies on Hydramotion's XL7 on-line viscometers to control the synthesis of polyglycol at its plant in northern Europe.

Another company has had 12 instruments operating at 130 degC on its production lines since 1996.

Along with many others, these companies chose the XL7-150 intrinsically safe on-line viscometer in part because it combines ATEX Ex II 1G certification for use in Zone 0 Hazardous Areas with excellent repeatability and high sensitivity, even at the relatively low viscosities involved (0.5 cP in one case).

Designed for ease of use and long life even in the most arduous of conditions, the XL7 viscometer is a "bolt-on-and-go" device requiring no on-site calibration and minimal maintenance.

"We had some concerns because we had to install the device near the pump, but we found that it was actually not affected at all, either by the vibration noise or the flow rate," said an engineer at the polyglycol plant.

"In terms of both price and performance, the Hydramotion viscometer is much better than our previous equipment.

It works perfectly". Request a free brochure from Hydramotion ...
