ICEM's software helps Land Rover
ICEM Ltd announced today that its ICEM Surf software suite played a key role in enabling Land Rover to meet its demanding quality targets for the latest Range Rover, which went on sale last year
Lee Cureton, ICEM's chief executive, said, "Over the past year or so we have been receiving an increasing number of enquiries from our major customers, particularly in Europe, about the possibility of a Linux version of ICEM Surf.
So, true to our policy of listening to our customers and delivering what they want, we made the decision to port the software to Linux.
The reaction from those of them who have seen it in action has been very positive." One of those customers, which has been at the forefront in requesting a Linux version of ICEM Surf, is Volke Entwicklungsring GmbH, in Wolfsburg, Germany.
Guido Naujoks, IT executive manager of Volke, said, "We would like to move from our current UNIX platform to more cost-effective PC platforms in the future but we would like an alternative to Windows because we would prefer to keep a UNIX-like operating system.
We have had a long relationship with ICEM and the ICEM Surf software suite is one of our major product development tools.
So we asked their management team about the possibility of developing a version for Linux.
They agreed and we started on the project together.
The result is that we will now be able to adopt a new, more cost-effective computer systems environment without any major disruption to mission-critical applications like ICEM Surf." The new Linux version of ICEM Surf follows the company's policy of offering a platform-independent software solution and joins the existing versions for the IBM AIX, SGI IRIX, Sun Solaris, HP/UX and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
It will be priced the same as all other versions.
