Jaguar Cars uses ICEM's surface design software
Jaguar Cars has recently standardised on ICEM Surf 3D surface modelling and evaluation software for the majority of the design and development of the free-form surface shapes
SEAT has been using ICEM Surf for the past few years for vehicle body and interior design development, Class A surfaces development, design visualisation and tool and die design.
The new software will be deployed throughout the SEAT Design Centre to provide additional capacity as well as enhanced modelling, visualisation and diagnosis capabilities.
Included in this latest contract is ICEM's latest Quick Surfacing software module, which is offered as an optional add-on to ICEM Surf.
Quick Surfacing enables 3D scan 'point cloud' data of physical objects, such as the clay model of a vehicle, to be read directly into ICEM Surf and for a 'first pass' surface model to then be quickly and automatically generated from the scan data for use in feasibility studies and further development work.
' ICEM is also providing SEAT with its new PLM Link software - another optional add-on to ICEM Surf - which will enable enhanced design data access capabilities through a bi-directional interface from the ICEM Surf model database to SEAT's existing product lifecycle management (PLM) computing systems.
Other facilities now provided by ICEM Surf at SEAT include advanced diagnosis tools for analysing the clearance between adjoining surfaces (gapping) and for diagnosing flat areas for evenness and for the 'springback' characteristics of sheet metal during the stamping process.
In addition, it includes advanced, real-time rendering facilities for creating photo-realistic design visualisations and animations during the design development and review process.
