Superior contact offered for high
current uses
A two component contact band that offers exceptionally low resistance and insertion force provides an improved connection system for high current applications.
Band 8, a unique two component contact band, offering exceptionally low resistance and insertion force, has been launched by ICORE International, to provide an improved connection solution for high current applications The contact band is inserted between the mating components of a connector, where its sprung construction and high conductivity ensure a consistently low contact resistance

Ideal for use in withdrawable switchgear and similar applications requiring push-on high-current connections to copper busbars, low profile busbar connectors offer IP20 protection.
High current applications featured
Icore's new contact band technology for high current applications is the main feature on its stand (No B4 160) at Electronica 2004.
This allows high current ratings to be achieved with smaller connectors and reduced heat generation.
Band 8's outstanding performance arises from its two component design, consisting of copper conductive plates backed by a sprung beryllium copper strip.
The separation of the conductive and spring elements offers greater current carrying capacity (60A), with extremely low resistance (300mW) and insertion forces, as well as providing overstrain protection, ensuring a permanent contact force.
The contact band can be used for a wide range of applications, including flat surfaces or pins and sockets, with a minimum diameter of 9mm.
However, Band 8 is particularly suitable for rotary connections.
"The two component design allows Band 8 to be fabricated without stamping or cropping," said John White, development manager of Icore International.
"So the band's edges are smoother, reducing friction and making the band ideal for rotational applications." The band is 9.8mm wide, with a bridge spacing of 3.32mm, and can be supplied on rolls or as pre-cut, pre-formed lengths.
Alternatively, Icore offers a full range of power connectors and will also undertake customised designs.
