CSE-Semaphore selects Isagraf for Kingfisher RTUs

An Isagraf product story
Edited by the Manufacturingtalk editorial team May 11, 2009

Isagraf has announced that product, Isagraf, is the software of choice for CSE-Semaphore's Kingfisher advanced RTUs, which are now available with secure DNP3 authentication.

Secure DNP3 authentication provides protection between master stations, such as control servers and human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and remote stations, such as RTUs and PLCs, by verifying that both the master station and the remote station are what they claim to be, thus preventing hijacking or spoofing attacks.

According to Isagraf, a Rockwell Automation company, authentication ensures that messages arriving at the remote station come from the master station or another legitimate element in the SCADA system.

The keyed hash message authentication code (HMAC) protocol used in the authentication process validates data integrity by using three components, including a shared key that only the sender and intended recipient have, so that only they can calculate or authenticate the HMAC.

Secure DNP3 protocol authentication is one of several features in Semaphore's security initiative for its Kingfisher product line, which includes the Kingfisher Plus+ and G30 models.

The Kingfisher Plus+ and G30 series both fully embed the Isagraf 5 control software environment, making them the first RTUs to support both IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499 standards, according to the company.
