The trend towards distributed control means networked "Micro" PLC's are doing the job a large PLC did in the past.

The trend towards distributed control means networked "Micro" PLC's are doing the job a large PLC did in the past But the level of intelligence a Micro PLC has these days means there is no sacrifice in processing power

Just such a PLC is the MicroSmart from IDEC Electronics who have long specialized in the production of the Micro programmable controller.

The IDEC MicroSmart family is an up to date range, offering many innovative features which you would expect to find on a 21st century product.

The hardware features include software selectable high speed counters, input filtering, catch inputs and network connections.

Also, software functions such as indirect moves, bit operations, port transmit and receive, XY co-ordinates, stepper motor pulse operations and PID control means the MicroSmart can handle most things that is thrown at it.

Plug-in board options such as extra serial ports, memory module, real time clock or mini HMI means you are able to select and pay only for the options you require.

The MicroSmart range starts at 89 pounds for just 10 I/O, provides both AC and DC supply options and ranges up to 264 I/O by the use of expansion modules.

Networking is the IDEC PLC family strong point, up to 32 devices can be accommodated on Datalink, IDEC's own network, and an ASi master module means up to 62 nodes can be accommodated on an ASi network.

These could be other manufacturers products or SwitchNet, IDEC's own ASi compatible pushbutton range.

The small size of the PLC's, easy plug together expansion capability with no back plates means your IDEC PLC takes up the minimum of panel space.

This space saving concept is also reflected in the range of HG Operator Interfaces.

The HG1X group of displays provide bright text message capability with user definable keys for register, screen and alarm operations.

They can derive their power from the PLC (no power supply required!) or a separate 24vdc supply for long distances.

The HG touchscreens provide monochrome and colour (256) options and can connect to many different manufacturers PLC's, using the drivers provided in the WindO/I configuration software.
