Enterprise integration of control

The Institution of Engineering and Technology seminar on enterprise integration of control systems

As more organisations recognise the strategic importance of data, there is growing interest and investment in initiatives associated with deriving business data from control systems and using the data to drive efficiencies and higher value Integrating real-time control systems with enterprise business systems such as ERP and the supply chain is a complex and often expensive task

Several methodologies have been evolved and are being deployed for managing enterprise information and applying best practices to data quality and data integration.

The pressures for compliance, transparency and agility are bringing data management and data integration back onto the agenda of large enterprises.

Issues such as:.

* Enterprise information management (EIM): The rise of EIM as a key discipline and organisational commitment.

* Data quality: The impact of compliance and data globalization issues is creating an increased focus on data quality.

* Data integration: The conflict between data-oriented and application-oriented integration approaches is increasing as the demand for real-time data delivery grows.

Control engineers, suppliers, integrators have all been content with their own disciplines- however now it is realised that the commonality of data requires new approaches.

Even with novel system functionality constantly being introduced, consistent integration principles are required by all.

Among the many standards, the SP-95 Standard, which has adopted the Purdue University model has come to the fore.

SAP and Microsoft have recently (2005) endorsed this model.

The seminar will address this standard as the main thrust, but will bring in other viewpoints and methodologies.

As regards the business processes, reference will be made to tools (for documenting business models) but the emphasis will be on the approach to developing business models or incorporating legacy models.

The seminar will be held at the University of Warwick on 23 November 2006. Request a free brochure from Institution of Engineering and Technology ...
