Three-in-one tester checks hardness

An Indentec Hardness Testing Machines product story

Hardness testing machine combines the three classical test methods - Rockwell, Vickers, and Brinell - to save users having to buy extra equipment to use two or more hardness scales.

Indentec has introduced the first British made hardness testing machine to combine the three classical test methods.

The new Indentec Universal is designed to carry out Rockwell, Vickers, and Brinell tests to official standards on loads upto 187.5kgf.

The Stourbridge Company says that the unique three in one capability will save users having to buy extra equipment to meet requirements involving two or more hardness scales.

For long term calibration stability, the bench mounted Universal employs proven deadweight technology rather than load cells to measure hardness.

It is available in several specifications.

The standard manually operated model is equipped with a nose mounted indenter to ensure easy access to test areas that might otherwise be difficult to reach.

With its portable microscope (X40 magnification), this inexpensive machine is said to be particularly suitable for demonstrating classical techniques in Universities and Technical colleges.

The basic system with its nose indenter can be progressively automated to minimise dependency on operators in production line and laboratory hardness testing.

The first enhancement is a built in measuring microscope, followed by a video camera in place of the eyepiece and, in the most advanced specification, automatic computer aided measurement and testing.

Other optional upgrading features include automatic focus, manual and motorised X-Y tables, and software for case depth determination.
