A dual-channel leak testing instrument from InterTech Development Company (IDC) doubles productivity by testing two parts simultaneously at high production-line speeds

A dual-channel leak testing instrument from InterTech Development Company (IDC) doubles productivity by testing two parts simultaneously at high production-line speeds, while avoiding the substantially higher cost of adding a second independent leak tester An enhanced version of IDC's computerized M-1075 Leak Detector, this unit also features extended memory that retains more data than earlier models, saving up to 1,000 test records for display, printout or downloading to standard spread sheets

In addition, it can perform statistical calculations on stored data to report Mean, Standard Deviation and Mean " 3 Standard Deviation for Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other quality-management programs.

Advanced design combines IDC's mass-flow sensing technology with microprocessor control for direct measurement of leakage rates, offering fast test cycle times of 0.3 to 2 sec on test-part volumes ranging up to 25cc.

This technology gives the Dual Channel model a sensing range of up to 80 sccm (standard cubic centimeters per minute) at test pressures up to 100 psig.

These features support a broad range of applications involving products or components that must reliably contain a liquid, gas or vacuum.

Housed in a compact unit 6.54" high, 12.63" wide and 15.75" deep (160 x 320 x 400 mm), the Dual Channel M-1075 is easily incorporated into proprietary automated assembly/test systems.

PC/PLC compatibility allows interfacing with machine controls, data highways or host computers.

Bi-directional interfaces allow the M-1075 to receive downloaded information such as program modifications, in addition to providing test data to other devices.

In Mass-Flow operation, the test part and the instrument's reference-volume reservoir are automatically pressurized to designated levels using in-plant compressed air.

Test part and reservoir then are isolated from the air supply but remain connected to each other through the mass-flow sensor.

Any leakage causes air to flow from the reservoir into the test part, while the sensor reads the flow as a direct measurement of leakage.

This technique provides a quicker, more reliable single-point measurement and prevents test results from being affected by line pressure variations.

A vacuum-fluorescent display reports test parameters, dynamic test results, statistics, and final accept/reject status.

Dual amber lighted indicators independently show when each channel's test cycle is underway, and dual lighted green indicators confirm each channel's "accept", so no operator judgement is required.

Test cycles are initiated by touching the amber "testing" indicator, or can be initiated by remote devices via rear-panel input/output connector.

Also provided on the rear panel are six 220V (60Hz) 1A relay outputs -- three per channel, for Accept, Reject, Test-in-Progress -- plus two independent RS232 ports for bi-directional computer interface, and a parallel printer port.

The Dual Channel M-1075 augments IDC's M-1000 Series computerized leak detectors, which includes a single-channel M-1075, the larger M-1035 offering a wider variety of options, and the M-1065 Industrial CPU, which networks up to eight other IDC leak detectors to provide central storage and graphic CRT display of test data.

The M-1000 Series also offers optional Pressure Decay/Increase and Differential Pressure models for applications appropriate to those earlier leak-detecting techniques.

For versatility and quick changeover, M-1000 Series instruments can store and recall up to 99 test programs.

Built-in diagnostics minimize set-up time and provide error codes that simplify troubleshooting down to the component level.

Test program parameters easily entered via front-panel 20-key touchpad include fill-bypass-stabilize-test cycle times, min/max pressure limits, upper and lower accept/reject setpoints, and calibration value.

Touchpad keys also initiate various other function and display modes, such as seal check, utility functions and self-diagnostics.

Menu selection allows switch to metric measurement units and switch from English-language display to German, French or Spanish.

Calibration is simple and automatic, initiated by a single touchpad keystroke, and using a front-panel plug-in calibration master.

Any or all test parameters and instrument functions can be password protected against unauthorized operator changes.

The Dual-Channel M-1075 is priced under $16,000, with typical delivery within 30 days.

In addition, IDC can design, build or consult on development of specialized test fixtures for use with the M-1075, and can provide complete, turnkey systems built around the M-1075.
