ISO 9001:2000 designates the latest revision and most comprehensive of three levels of quality management system requirements within the ISO 9000 Standards, encompassing 20 separate quality management elements affecting product design, development, production, installation, service and customer satisfaction.
The worldwide Standards were created by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) of Geneva, Switzerland, in 1987.
Certification culminates a stringent process that evaluates quality management elements across all disciplines of a company's entire business system.
Four issues generally summarize key areas of this process: 1.
Management policies must demonstrate that top management has set a clear mandate for conformance.
2.
Documentation must be properly structured with written work instructions and inspection criteria.
3.
The quality system itself must be in place and operating.
4.
Records must be kept to demonstrate that the quality system achieves effective operation.
