Optical sensor measures distance to 1mm
Lower cost laser sensor that measures distance to within 1mm at high ranges has sensor element and electronics for signal evaluation integrated on a single silicon chip.
When presenting the Hermes Award to ifm electronic at last year's Hanover Fair Prof Dr Wolfgang Wahlster, Director and CEO of the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and a member of the jury panel, declared "This distance sensor represents a genuine breakthrough innovation." The efector pmd laser sensor from ifm electronic is designed for distance measurement to within a millimetre at high ranges

Sensor detects pump cavitation and stoppages
IFM Electronic's has developed a pump diagnostic pressure sensor that continuously monitors and detects cavitation, trapped air and blockages.
It operates to the time-of-flight principle: transmitted light takes a certain time to travel to the object and back to the sensor.
This period of time is directly proportional to the distance travelled.
Traditional time-of-flight sensors use a photodiode as receiver element.
Additional external electronics is used for signal acquisition and processing.
This sensor design is expensive, large in size and therefore often not suitable for industrial position sensing.
* A world first - in comparison, the PMD sensor's receiver element is a 'System-on-Chip' design.
Both sensor element and electronics for signal evaluation are integrated on a single silicon chip called a Photonic Mixer Device (PMD).
This innovative, low-cost, high-precision sensor element contains the world's first on-chip, time-of-flight measurement system with industrial feasibility Advantage: This innovative design by ifm offers maximum performance in a compact, industrially compatible housing - at a fraction of the price of traditional systems.
Ifm supplies one of the widest ranges of sensors for position and process control, complemented by a huge selection of connection possibilities, from connecting cable to AS-interface systems.
Ifm is committed to working closely with its customers to develop products which precisely match their needs, and the company provides expert, readily accessible technical support to help users maximize the benefits they gain from ifm products. Request a free brochure from IFM Electronic ...
