Cosmetic applicator maker, using latest ERP and IT, aims to reduce client quote turnaround time from 5 days to 24h, improve on-time delivery from 68% to 95% and cut raw material stocks.

Synlatex Lambournes Group (SLG) has selected Information Engineering's SYSPRO APS to replace its current ERP system The deal, worth GBP 120,000, is for a 20-user system in the first instance, to be integrated into the business over the next six to nine months

Following the merger in 1998 between Synlatex and 70-year-old Lambournes, SLG has become one of the world's largest specialist make-up applicator manufacturers, supplying the cosmetics industry both in the UK and overseas.

Products range from cosmetic, body and facial sponges to powder puffs, brushes and a whole host of other accessories, plus a retail packaging service.

Based in Leominster, Herefordshire, the company exports to over 55 countries worldwide, including Australia and China, and is looking to develop its business in other regions including America.

Working closely with major cosmetics houses it places particular emphasis on developing new and innovative raw materials to use for its products while retaining technologies that have proven successful in the past.

The company turns over GBP 4.0 million per annum and produces a best-selling range of applicators exclusively for Boots, using the Cosmopolitan magazine brand name.

Thanks to a period of rapid growth, SLG has been looking to fine-tune its business efficiencies and replace its existing ERP system - the system was struggling to support the business because it was heavily dependent on manual intervention.

The company was keen to find a replacement system that would give better control over the entire business: from customer service, through inventory management and lead-time reduction, to WIP reduction and improved manufacturing efficiency.

Using SYSPRO ERP and APS, the company aims to reduce client quote turnaround time from the current 5 days to 24 hours, improve on-time delivery from 68% to 95% and cut raw material stocks from GBP 800,000 to GBP 600,000.

Lisa Newman, operations manager of SLG says: "When you're making substantial investment in a system like this, you look for reassurances beyond those of the vendor.

Information Engineering's reputation for customer satisfaction helped make our decision.

Thanks to references from other SYSPRO users we witnessed its success in other companies and that gave us great confidence in going ahead with the partnership (Newman visited Information Engineering customers, Dzus Fasteners and Doncaster Chard)." She adds, "Of all the systems we looked at, Information Engineering's SYSPRO was the least complicated to use and the most visual.

What really impressed us was the way the APS tracking systems allowed jobs to be pushed electronically onto the shop floor.

The touch screens make the process clear, quick and easy for our operators and give us the visibility we need." About Information Engineering - Information Engineering is headquartered in Manchester and has offices in Glasgow, Reading, Galway and Cape Town, South Africa.
