Business applications integrated with press shop
Business applications for a state-of-the art new panel pressing plant will be integrated with a fully automated material management and logistics system.
Unipart Ebersp?cher Exhaust Systems (UEES) and Kautex Unipart (KUL) operate as part of the Unipart Manufacturing Group.
Both companies are first tier suppliers with production facilities located in Coventry.
Customers include Jaguar, MG Rover, Land Rover, Honda, Lotus, Saab, and BMW.
UEES designs and manufactures exhaust systems, catalytic converters, fabricated manifolds and steel fuel tanks; and Kautex Unipart manufactures plastic fuel tanks and fuel systems.
An important feature of the implementation is the development of a value-added package (VAP) to adapt order processing facilities to meet the requirements of the automotive sector.
Designed for use in a repetitive manufacturing environment, the VAP covers product shipments through to customer self bill invoicing.
The system will also incorporate transport labelling, using the industry 'Odette' standards.
Other features include the requirement for the electronic transmission of pre-note messages providing delivery status information.
The initial implementation covers the core requirements needed to support the autonomous operation of each of the companies.
Development of the full system functionality is now underway.
This will include a number of innovative features such as supplier portals which will allow better integration with the companies' trading partners.
IFS Applications was selected following a comprehensive evaluation from which a short list of five potential vendors was selected, including the supplier of the existing divisional system.
The order was placed in early 2001 and implementation of the first phase was completed by the end of the year.
Commenting on the implementation, David Nicholas managing director of Unipart Manufacturing Group noted that both Unipart Ebersp?cher Exhaust Systems and Kautex Unipart Ltd have successfully gone live on IFS "on time and to budget.".
