Borg Warner is a Tier One supplier to Kia and manufacture transfer cases; the transfer cases are delivered directly to Kia as a main component used in the build of the Sorento As much of the case is built up by hand it was felt an automatic visual inspection of key components within the sub assembly would be more reliable in guaranteeing the 100% and zero ppm that Kia ex-pected

There are some key areas on the transfer case which require inspection including: 1.

Tone wheel on front output shaft 2.

Thrust washer on top of the ball and ramp system 3.

Presence of plate directly on top of clutch pack 4.

Grey spacer presence 5.

Spring on shaft rail present 6.

Correct shift cam 7.

Two dowels in the correct position The transfer case has a number of parts which operators have difficulty checking The final solution involved mounting the cameras on a gantry built around the current line, these cameras were connected via a single cable attachment to the control cabinet situated ap-proximately 2 metres from the line.

The position and angles of the cameras and lights were controlled precisely as all mechanical design was completed in-house.
