Food manufacturer crisps up its date marking
Giles Foods has tried most types of coders and printers to apply 'use by' dates and batch numbers to product packaging and have now standardised on the Imaje S7 deviated inkjet printers.
On stand 4145 at Pakex 2001, world leading inkjet coding specialist, Imaje, launched a laser coder which promises to be the complete coding solution for all types of applications.
The Imaje Lightjet offers all the advantages of indelible laser coding in an easy to install and use package with total customisation, and once-a-year maintenance.
The high power, 250 watt laser, the most powerful currently available, allows reliable marking of even difficult materials and surfaces.

Markers suit low or high volume production
The Imaje S7 range of deviated ink jet printers provide cost effective coding and marking for a wide range of applications in low and high volume production environments.
Ink jet printers code 500,000 units/week
St Davids Assemblies, one of the UK's largest manufacturers of kettle controls and safety cut-outs, has chosen Imaje S4+ ink jet printers to code directly onto the 500, 000 units/week.
Printing on almost any surface
Described as 'all terrain',Imaje S8 range of printers can print on virtually any surface, under the most difficult dusty, damp or hot conditions using a wide range of visible and invisible inks.
One of the major advantages of Lightjet laser coding is the durability of the marking.
On most surfaces, laser marking actually engraves the coding into the material or paint making it virtually permanent.
In most applications, only grinding or polishing the surface can remove the coding.
The high power, 250 watt laser is capable of clearly marking most surfaces from paper and card to glass, PET and PVC.
Manufactured by Rofin, one of the world's leading suppliers of industrial lasers, the CO2 SLAB sealed-tube source laser, guaranteed for three years, uses a high reliability polygonal mirror system to form the coding.
The compact print head is mounted on an articulated arm providing 1.6 metres reach to simplify integration with existing production lines.
The distance between the head and the surface to be marked can be between 125 and 225 mm with a tolerance of ñ3 mm to allow for variations in the marked surface.
Conveyor speed is constantly monitored to compensate for any variation.
The coding can be totally customised using the three choices of print head telescope setting, scan height and laser beam cross section enable settings to be optimised for all applications.
Up to five lines of coding using character heights from 2 to 15 mm in several fonts allow a wide choice of coding including variable message marking using text, numerals, logos and date formats.
Data can be downloaded from any computer system via the standard RS-232 and RS-422 ports whilst the user friendly, menu led interface makes manual data entry via the built-in keyboard and large backlit display quick, simple and accurate.
No inks, no solvents, no fumes, no consumables all cut running costs and protect the environment whilst once a year maintenance involves simply checking the water level and cleaning the cooling matrix.
When it comes to cost of ownership, Lightjet will be very difficult to beat.
