Construction industry products company wanted reliability, adaptability and customer support and it needed printers to perform consistently well to avoid late delivery penalties.

Although construction product manufacturer Grace Construction Products had been using Imaje inkjet printers for the past 13 years, when it decided to retire some of their ageing Imaje S4 printers, they trialled equipment from other coding companies After the trials, the results still favoured the Imaje products

Grace Construction Products protects structures and pipelines.

In Slough, UK, it produces a wide range of self adhesive anti-corrosion waterproof tapes used for onshore and offshore pipeline protection.

As they manufacture their own proprietary sheeting, production is based on hot processing and the environment is particularly harsh with temperatures rising to well in excess of 50 deg C.

Using heavily pigmented ink, the Imaje printers run at variable speeds for up to seven days and six nights per week and have to respond to frequent stopping whilst rolls are changed.

These conditions are normally not conducive to inkjet printing, but the Imaje equipment has responded well and provided the reliability required by Grace.

The Imaje printers are used to code many km of tape per day.

The print is applied to the film surface during the lamination process.

Messages include brand name, batch code and date of production, logos and product names, all required for traceability purposes.

The code must withstand extreme ground conditions from both sand and salt.

The position of the code is of paramount importance; the text is placed centrally down the roll of tape enabling this to be used as a guide during application around the pipes to ensure the correct overlay is maintained.

Chris Ford, production manager at Grace Construction Products explained the reasons for choosing Imaje again.

"Our primary considerations were reliability, adaptability and customer support.

We supply an industry where penalty clauses for late delivery are routine and the impact of late deliveries can be financially prohibitive.

We needed printers to perform consistently well and which were well supported.

The Imaje printers have always responded well to frequent stopping, high ambient temperatures, hot processes and a relatively unforgiving environment." Ford concluded, "Imaje customer support is excellent with members of the Imaje team both personable and knowledgeable.

Their speed of response is to be commended for its consistency and willingness to service the frequently demanding needs of the customer and I especially like the training facility at (Imaje) Runcorn, where a number of our key people have been trained to engineer standard with excellent results.".
