Cartridge motors have housing with no
bearings

Cartridge motors employ direct drive technology that integrates a rotor, stator and high-resolution feedback device into a novel, bearing-less housing.

Inmoco's new range of Cartridge DDRT motors from Danaher Motion are a completely new type of direct drive technology that integrates a rotor, stator and high-resolution feedback device into a unique bearing-less housing The DDR motors combine the performance advantages of frameless technology with the ease of installation of a full frame motor at significantly reduced cost compared to conventional direct drive solutions

The unique, ultra compact design of the cartridge DDR motors means that they are competitively priced when compared to traditional servo systems with associated mechanical transmissions.

However, the newer DDR technology provides a mechanism for boosting output and reducing operating costs and also enables the user to enjoy the benefits of zero maintenance, increased reliability and reduced audible noise.

Employing Danaher's new Cartridge DDR technology also eliminates both the cost and the bulk of traditional mechanical transmission components such as belts, pulleys and gears, and the downtime and maintenance that inevitably results as these components wear.

Instead, the cartridge direct drive rotary motor uses an innovative compression coupling to connect the rotor to the shaft, together with a unique shipping clamp design that facilitates "mount and run" operation in less than 30 minutes.

The fact that the Cartridge DDR motors do not require gearing eliminates errors caused by friction, backlash - which is zero - and other gear inaccuracies.

As a result, the motors are up to 50 times more accurate, offering improved velocity regulation and stability and repeatability better than one arc second in high performance positioning systems.

In addition to improved accuracy, the DDR motors are also up to 20db quieter in operation, this the result of a design that is free from the noise inducing effects of bearing play, gear tooth resistance and similar disturbing factors..more.

Indeed, for practical purposes, the performance-limiting residual non-linearities, so common in conventional servomechanisms, are almost absent when Cartridge DDR motors are employed.
