Schaeffler acquires automotive chain
maker

By acquiring Renold Automotive Systems, the Schaeffler Group's Automotive Division can now offer automotive customers complete camshaft drive and timing solutions, including chain systems, belt systems and variable camshaft timing systems The Schaeffler Group, manufacturer of bearings, linear systems and automotive components under the INA brand, last month acquired automotive chain maker Renold Automotive Systems (RAS), part of Renold group The aim of the acquisition is to further strengthen the Schaeffler Group's engine front end drive competence and maximise its complete system knowledge

The acquisition of Renold Automotive Systems is important because it means the Schaeffler Group now becomes a Tier One supplier of complete chain systems to automotive manufacturers.
Our automotive customers want to purchase complete chain systems from one supplier, including chains, chain tensioners and guides.
We can now fulfil this." He continued: "The acquisition also means we can fast-track our own chain development.
Renold's manufacturing facilities, coupled with our own deep drawn cup press technology, gives us first-class production facilities with which to manufacture current and future chain products." RAS employs around 700 people world-wide and has plants in Calais and St Simeon in France and smaller manufacturing and assembly businesses in the US and China.
