Handheld device makes condition monitoring easier
Schaeffler's FAG Detector III handheld vibration monitoring and balancing device has been updated to make machinery condition monitoring easier.
The focus at the company is on the continuous improvement and development of more 'intelligent' valve train systems.
Today, demands on intelligent valve trains include reduced noise levels, reduced friction, reduced exhaust emissions and reduced fuel consumption.
The overall objective when developing valve train systems is therefore to design with reduced mass but increased stiffness.
Schaeffler Automotive's approach is therefore to use the latest analysis and simulation software, including kinematics and kinetic calculations, FEA, topological optimisation and dynamic simulation.
For example, in order to verify the design of a rocker arm valve train, the company analyses the dynamic behaviour with the aid of an equivalent Multi-Body-System.
With a world-wide market share of more than 30% for valve train components and more than 50% of the market in Europe, Schaeffler Group Automotive's customers include the likes of Volvo, Jaguar, Ford, Toyota, Fiat, Porsche, Renault, Nissan, Rolls Royce, BMW, Volkswagen, Harley-Davidson, Alfa Romeo, Audi, Seat, Hyundai and Honda.
The Group's sales turnover has risen significantly, from around euro50 million in 1990 to more than euro320 million in 2005.
During the same period, the total number of employees in the Schaeffler Group Automotive Division has risen from 1,450 to more than 6,000. Request a free brochure from Schaeffler (UK) ...
