Software translates CAD/CAM data to ABB
robots
Software package converts APT-CL format to the ABB robot language RAPID and supports robot controllers - so offering powerful CAD/CAM to users of ABB IRB-type robots.

CAD/CAM toolpaths imported into RobotStudio
Toolpaths generated from CAD/CAM packages can now be imported into the ABB Robotics RobotStudio environment via the IRBCAM software and simulate toolpaths in 3D graphics.
IRBCAM has been tested mainly with SurfCam, but will work on any CAM software that can export to the APT-CL format.
On the S4C+ controller more than 3 million coordinate points can be executed by the robot.
IRBCAM supports 3- and 5-axis machining operations and is suited for rapid prototyping, grinding, surface finishing or mould production of wood and foam materials and light metals (aluminium).
Typical accuracies that can be achieved with an ABB IRB-type robot is 0.5mm and a workspace volume of approximately 2x2x2 metres.
IRBCAM now also supports external axes, which can extend the workspace even further (typical linear tracks are 5 to 10m).
A rotary external axis enables an object to be machined from all sides in one setup.
