Low-cost manufacturing management system for SMEs is aimed at companies that need essential manufacturing and financial management functions at least cost.

Announced for the United Kingdom market, VISUAL Manufacturing from Lilly Software Associates is a new and low-cost manufacturing management system for small manufacturers and sub-contractors Based on industry standard Microsoft technology, the suite of fully integrated modules automates key business processes and enables better management of inventory, purchasing and sales order processing, shop floor activities and cost accounting

In addition, Lilly Software claims, the system incorporates one of the most comprehensive production schedulers currently available on the market.

"VISUAL Manufacturing is aimed at the thousands of smaller manufacturers and sub-contractors that are striving to survive in the UK manufacturing industry," said Clive Mattson, managing director of Lilly Software's European headquarters.

"For the smaller manufacturer, the new system offers an affordable way to replace out-dated methods or non-integrated systems and significantly improve competitive edge, productivity and customer service.

It embodies all the strengths of Lilly Software's more advanced supply chain management products.

VISUAL Manufacturing will serve as a robust, reliable and value-for-money investment that may be readily changed to meet new business requirements." A number of specialised application modules are available with VISUAL Manufacturing.

These include engineering change control, lot/serial traceability, master scheduling and MRP, barcoding, and customer relationship management (CRM).

Additionally, a module is available for those companies wishing to adopt or enhance lean manufacturing practice.

Lilly Software's policy is to produce products and systems that offer swift return on investment (RoI).

The company makes this possible by enabling the software to be implemented rapidly (8-12 weeks being a typical example) and making it easy to use.

The combination of these two factors mean individuals, teams and departments may become productive quickly, thus accelerating RoI.

The ease of use is reflected in Lilly Software's patented graphical user interface, called the Manufacturing Window.

This powerful tool brings together performance data from crucial functions in a display that resembles a control panel.

It keeps the user clearly informed about progress, priorities and any irregularities relating to production activities, inventory, costs and other important factors.

VISUAL Manufacturing embodies another important feature to ensure value for money.

The suite of products is a version of Lilly Software's existing and larger supply chain management system, VISUAL Enterprise.

This means that if a company expands and requires more functions, or has to add more users or operate on multi-site basis, the core software is fully scalable and may be added to without having to buy a new or different system.

An important feature, it extends the value of the investment and avoids the disruption of finding a new system, installing it, re-training users and ironing out problems.

The new system is designed to appeal to small manufacturers across a range of planning and production operations including make-to-order, assemble-to-order, make-to-stock, and mixed mode, including lean manufacturing.
