To inform manufacturers of the latest developments in the use of wireless communications and control systems in automation, a two-day conference is being arranged in Canada.

A two-day conference on 'Wireless Solutions for Manufacturing Automation: Insights for Technology and Business Success', will be held the Marriott Vancouver Airport in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, on July 23-24, 2007 The ISA will host the conference and the programme will provide business insights into the current state of wireless technologies for manufacturing and control systems

Wayne Manges, DOE Industrial Wireless Programme manager, Oak Ridge National Laboratories will give pre-conference tutorial on 22 July, 'An Overview of All Industrial Wireless-Technologies, Standards, Applications, Implications-A WINA Tutorial'.

The tutorial will give attendees a more in-depth understanding of wireless technical issues.

Presentations on various topics will be given by industry experts at the conference.

Highlights include the following.

* 'ISA100-A Roadmap for the Family of Universal Wireless Standards' - Wayne Manges, DOE Industrial Wireless Program Manager, Oak Ridge National Laboratories.

* 'ISA100.11a, Release 1- AN Update on the First Wireless Standard Emerging from the Industry' - Patrick Kinney, Kinney Consulting.

* 'Mobilizing Work Processes-Are Your People Ready?' - Dan Arildson, Mobility Lead-US Manufacturing Industries Team, Microsoft.

* WirelessHART-Expanding the Possibilities' - Ron Helson, executive director, HART Communication Foundation.

* 'Optimizing Wireless Technology: Perspectives of Asset Owners - Richard Caro, CEO, CMC Associates.

* 'A Pilot Project-Cautiously Moving Forward with an Industrial Wireless Initiative in a Process Research and Development Facility' - James D Murphy, Eli Lilly.

* 'Wireless at Boeing-The Mobile Manufacturing Enabler,' - Richard H Paine, Boeing.

* Keynote address ' No Wires - No Limit' - John Berra, president, Emerson Process Management and executive vice president, Emerson.

In addition to his position at Emerson, Berra also serves as chairman of the Fieldbus Foundation.

* Keynote address 'Top Considerations When Choosing a Wireless Strategy' - Harsh Chitale, vice president of Strategy and Global Marketing, Honeywell Process Solutions.

Chitale is responsible for strategy, business development and global marketing.

"The presentations we've planned and the conference programme we've put together facilitates understanding of the wireless technology issues and business considerations that companies are facing today," said T S Lee, ISA's director of Standards, Publishing, and Technology Services.

"These sessions will help people make effective decisions on when and where to utilize wireless solutions in the industrial environment." The conference will also provide an opportunity for attendees to network with each other.

Technology displays, a private networking session, and several receptions are planned.
