Metallised Biodegradable Film Can Be Composted
What is claimed to be the first metallised biodegradable film suitable for industrial and home composting has been introduced by Innovia Films.
Manufactured from wood pulp from managed plantations, Natureflex will fully biodegrade in water in under 24 days, said the company.
Tosama, in Slovenia, said its use of Natureflex reflects consumer demand for more eco-friendly packaging.
As the director of the company's logistic centre, Gornik Franc, explained: "One of the goals of Tosama is to move towards using only biodegradable packaging materials that are friendly to the environment.
Wrapping tampons in biodegradable material is accepted by the market and may eventually be expected by the consumer." The company is expanding rapidly with sales of private label tampons across Europe, as well in China and Australia.
Its range also includes branded Viriana tampons, which has an almost 20 per cent market share of tampons on Slovenian market.
As well as its biodegradable and compostable capabilities, Natureflex films have a wide heat sealing range from 70 degrees C to 200 degrees C for high speed line performance without compromising pack seals, claimed Innovia.
NE30 is coated on both sides with a high moisture barrier sealant layer and has natural deadfold properties.
Natureflex tear tapes are also available.
