Mill upgrades feature advanced shape control
Advanced shape control systems feature in two rolling mill upgrades recently carried out in US steel and aluminium plants.
In May 2003, Logan Aluminum signed an agreement with Industrial Automation Services (IAS) to design, supply and commission a new replacement shape control system for one of their cold mills.
The new system incorporates the IAS open architecture control system, easy to maintain graphical program interface and takes advantage of IAS's considerable process know-how and local support to provide closed loop roll bending, tilt control and coolant flow control via dynamic spray pattern adjustment.
Included in this package is a new airbearing shapemeter roll and associated equipment being supplied by Shape Technology This order and other recent Alcan orders further strengthens the relationship between Logan Aluminum, its owners Arco Aluminum and the Alcan group, and IAS.
