Chinese metal producers order more
automation
In a continuing drive to update rolling mills, Chinese ferrous and non-ferrous plants are ordering more automation systems including gap control.
Industrial Automation Systems (IAS) in Australia report more orders from Chinese rolling mills, particularly for gap and gauge control, shape control and automatic roll eccentricity compensation For example, the Xin Jiang Joinworld Co, Located in Urumqui City, has signed a contract for the design, supply, and commission of an IAS Level 1 Control System to cover the following

Shape control uses air bearing measurement roll
The commissioning of new shape control technology for a continuous tandem cold mill includes a new air bearing shape measuring roll, segmented coolant spray bars and strip width measurement.
* Hydraulic gap control.
* Automatic Gauge Control.
* Roll Eccentricity Compensation.
* Shape Control.
The systems will be installed in the plant's new 1300mm intermediate foil mill being manufactured by CNPT - a Chinese rolling mill builder.
IAS told manufacturingtalk.com that its achieva MILL AUTOMATION platform is an open architecture control System, which incorporates IAS' easy to maintain, graphical programming interface and takes advantage of IAS' considerable process know-how.
There is also the following.
* A high precision ABB Solid Style Shape Roll.
* USC Spray Headers with the capability of hot edge sprays.
* Position Transducers from Parkegate Engineering.
Then, the Fujian Nanping Aluminium, located in Nanping, has agreed for IAS to design, supply, and commission a Level 1 Control System - including hydraulic gap control, automatic gauge control, roll eccentricity control, and shape control - for its new four-high cold mill.
Chinese builder CNPT is supplying the mill.
Similar mill automation platform and ABB and Parkegate systems will be supplied as similar to those at Xin Jiang Joinworld Co Another aluminium products producer, the Chinalco-Henan Aluminum, in Luoyang, has signed an agreement with IAS, to design, supply, and commission a new Level 1 Control System similar to the installations mentioned above, only this time for a new six-high cold mill also being manufactured by CNPT.
As well as the achieva MILL AUTOMATION platform, IAS includes the new Sundwig BFI Solid Type Shape Roll, the latest USC Spray Bars for localized roll cooling, new roll load and position transducers supplied by Parkegate Engineering.
