The customer required a system that managed Manufacturing (Work) orders created by the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system, through the various production phases.
The Work Centres dealt with "rolls" of product as well as units.
The Manufacturing Orders were receipted from one Work Centre to another using barcodes.
The Manufacturing Order data was also automatically updated on the ERP system using a KBA Systems developed ERP Gateway.
The Gateway controlled the real-time communication between the Production Control System and the back-end ERP System.
The Work Centres on the Production Control System corresponded to the different machine operations carried out by the customer i.e Print Press, Pouching, Header Bags, Slitting, and Lid operations.
A number of customer business rules were also implemented as part of the system to allow the conditions for movement of product and the definition of what information should be visible at the next Work Centre.
The solution also captured such information as: Material Roll Setup, Material Roll Waste, Master Roll Identification (and traceability), Item and Lot number validation, and Final Output Roll quantities.
Other modules included were aReporting Module, a System Administration and System Security module.
