Identec Solutions, a leading global supplier of long-range RFID-based solutions, has introduced its new reader and ruggedised tag.

Identec Solutions, a leading global supplier of long-range RFID-based solutions, has introduced its new reader and ruggedised tag at RFID Journal Live in Las Vegas, May 1-3, 2006 (Booth no.734) The i-CARD CF is the world's first RFID read/write device in compact flash format that can attain ranges of up to 100 meters (300 feet) and the i-Q8HR is the world's most feature-rich ruggedized RFID tag that can attain this same range.

As mobile electronic devices become smaller, the size of mobile RFID readers must be adjusted accordingly.

For this reason, Identec Solutions has transferred its proven i-CARD reader technology to a compact flash format, without compromising the read range.

This range remains at up to 100 meters (300 feet) thanks to innovative active UHF radio frequency technology.

The i-CARD CF is compatible with Identec Solutions' Intelligent Long Range i-Q and i-B tags and can easily be integrated into laptops, handhelds and other mobile devices via its CF card connector.

As a result, users of these mobile devices can also achieve real-time information about their assets over large distances.

"The i-CARD CF unites two factors that are becoming more and more important in identifying, tracking and locating assets: mobility and range," explains Roderick O'Keefe, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Identec Solutions.

"We are very proud that we are marketing the world's first mobile 100-meter RFID read/write device in compact flash format.

With the i-CARD CF, our customers will be able to deploy more modern and smaller handhelds, without having to sacrifice excellent read range".

Another new development by Identec Solutions is the world's leading feature-rich ruggedized tag: the i-Q8HR.

Extensive engineering and testing have provided Identec Solutions the backdrop for developing this world-class tag with all the dynamic features of the i-Q series transponders with increased tolerance to rugged environments.

This long-range (300 feet) RFID tag not only has a read/write capability of 8KB, but it has the world's first 360-degree visibility of wireless LED.

This 360-degree pick-to-light provides visibility of the tag regardless of tag orientation.

Innovation was driven from collaborated efforts with Identec Solutions' clients in heavy manufacturing and automotive sectors.

Former General Motors Executive Technology Advisor Mike Comello comments, "General Motors appreciates when suppliers take a collaborative partnering effort when designing solutions for GM's environment.

I anticipate other automotive manufacturers like Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Ford and Chrysler will want to adopt this solution".

"We are pleased with the development of this rugged tag.

Our engineering and marketing initiative of collaborating with the automotive and manufacturing sector provided us significant insight into their requirements.

We were able to engineer the i-Q8HR and deliver it at a price point ensuring Return-on-Investment (ROI) is achieved".

Roderick O'Keefe, VP Sales and Marketing for Identec Solutions.
