Russian metals adopt supply chain
management
Russian mining and metals company, Mechel, and i2 CIS have signed an agreement for the implementation of i2 Master Planner in several stages during 2005 - 2006.
Mechel, one of the leading mining and metals companies in Russia, and i2 CIS, an authorized i2 reseller and the first company in Russia to specialize in supply chain management, have announced that they have signed an agreement for the implementation of i2 Master Planner at Mechel The project plan consists of several stages which will be realized in the period 2005 - 2006

The optimisation of supply chain planning is an appropriate stage in Mechel's activity realisation, aimed to improve the management system, business transparency and investment attraction.
Mechel selected i2 solutions due to their functionality, openness and flexibility, and i2 CIS' experience in master planning implementations at metals companies.
The implementation of i2 Master Planner at Mechel is intended to primarily consist of two stages.
The first stage of the plan calls for the system to be installed in three plants: Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, Beloretsk Metallurgical Plant and Izhstal.
In the future, the intention is for the system to encompass Urals Stampings Plant, Vyartsilya Metal Products Plant and Mechel Nemunas.
The i2 solution is designed to help Mechel make optimal plans based on the overall supply chain model, which includes production facilities, warehouses, transport network, custom and sale.
In addition, the solution is intended to allow Mechel to consider various constraints in plans, make collaborative sales, production and custom plans on different time horizons, manage sales and select optimal process flows.
"We need a uniform information structure for complicated business processes and strict planning management".
"It is our goal that the i2 Master Planner implementation will contribute to the further integration of Mechel's production facilities," said Mechel's chief operating officer, Alexei Ivanushkin.
