IT infrastructure experts Infrasys were called in to undertake an assessment of Peverel's IT infrastructure, from which a programme of improvements was developed.
These covered both the New Milton, Hampshire headquarters and the Luton offices.
A new Cisco-based network design was implemented with renewal of the cabling at the Luton site; at the New Milton site, the need for planning permission to dig up the road threatened to delay the programme by some three months if a traditional cabling solution were used.
Instead, LazerBit Gigabit links were used to provide network resilience between buildings.
The new network is used to provide voice services as well as data.
In addition, a new data centre was built at Luton, with full uninterruptible power supply, air conditioning and environmental monitoring, fire detection and integrated alarms.
21 terabytes of data storage were provided using two EqualLogic iSCSI storage arrays which provide for easy data management through their advance management features.
The two EqualLogic SANs enable data replication between sites, allowing for robust data back-up and disaster recovery capability.
The new infrastructure was fully operational by January, two weeks ahead of schedule and just four months after the go-ahead was given.
Peverel IT Director, Martin Stevens said: "This investment has made our IT infrastructure robust, responsive and secure and ensures that we have the IT capacity we need to meet our ambitious growth plans for the business".
