Static elimination products solved
packaging pose

When a company changed its product packaging from blister packs to overprinted bags it encountered problems, which were solved by static elimination bars and ionising blowers.

Glasgow-based Artex-Rawlplug is a market leader in the manufacture of plastic and metal fixings for the construction industry and DIY and retail fraternity When the company, for ecological reasons, changed its product packaging from blister packs to overprinted bags it encountered unexpected production problems

The installation of static elimination bars and ionising blowers from Meech Static Eliminators immediately put the matter right and the machines have been running efficiently ever since.

Artex-Rawlplug's Manufacturing Manager Alex Heron explained, "We make 400 million plastic plugs and 25 million metal fixings a year, so an efficient packaging process is vital for us.

We made the change to overprinted bags because, when blister packs are opened, some of the cardboard usually sticks to the plastic, which cannot therefore be recycled.

However, when we first operated the new bagging and printing equipment we experienced serious problems with bags sticking to the metal parts of the machine, causing creasing, stoppages and wastage.

It was a nightmare." The equipment supplier suggested that Artex-Rawlplug contact Meech, who had solved similar problems before.

Meech1s technical representative confirmed that the low level static charge generated on the bags when the thermal print head passed over the bags was causing them to stick to the metal surfaces of the machine.

The problem was immediately and simply resolved by the installation on the machines of both Meech static eliminator bars and ionising blowers.

Heron was delighted with the result, "The equipment runs perfectly now.

It1s as different as night and day." Artex-Rawlplug has since installed two additional printing and bagging machines; naturally they incorporate Meech static elimination equipment. Request a free brochure from Meech International ...
