Reliable monitoring of relative humidity and temperature conditions can be undertaken with confidence over a long period of time with palm sized loggers from JDL.

Reliable monitoring of relative humidity and temperature conditions can be undertaken with confidence over a long period of time Battery-operated small palm sized data loggers for this task from ACR in Canada are available from JDL in Europe

The first requirement is relative humidity accuracy and temperature sensing.

For the cost conscious the TRH-1000 8-bit device is a simple RH and temperature logger with an accuracy of +/-4% 20%-80%RH and with a memory of 32kB, this is supplied with its own software and simply plugs into the comms port on a PC.

The SR-2 8-bit +/- 4% (10-90%RH) with 32kB memory range of devices is normally adequate although an SRP-2 12-bit +/-3%(10-90%RH) with an 128kB memory device is also available for more demanding requirements.

The second major requirement is the software, this must be intuitive, easy to install and use.

TrendReader for SR series and TrendReader Plus for SRP series software is said to be just that.

It offers simple and easy facilities with the Plus version having a wide range of add on options.

Sample rates can easily be set up from a few seconds to a few hours between readings.

This sample rate will affect the capacity of logger readings, fast sampling will fill up the memory faster than slower readings.

The software allows the user to either recycle on a first in first out basis or stop when full.

The relative humidity sensors used in the SR and SRP series are said to be relatively immune to chemical contamination but when exposed to certain contaminants and or extreme conditions, accuracy degradation could result.

The data loggers therefore have exchangeable sensors that can readily be plugged into the logger and easily have the calibration installed.

They also have the option feature of installing remote RH and Temperature sensor assemblies The TRH-1000 just has the two channels and the sensors are not replaceable.
