Dutch multinational sheet metal manufacturer standardising on Jetcam Expert CADCAM and Nesting software
Exerion Precision Technology, based in Ulft, the Netherlands, manufactures complex internal structures (such as printer engine frames) In the mid 1990's they purchased a Finn Power turret punch press, which was supplied with Jetcam Expert

CADCAM sheetmetal software has laser improvements
Latest version of sheet metal fabrication CADCAM software includes substantial improvements for laser users, such as skeletal destruction, heat avoidance and common-line cutting.
Flexible CAM add-on reduced part programming time
Limited by the scope of existing CAM functionality in a CNC punch press controller, a stair components maker searched around for a more flexible CAM, which reduced part programming time.
Six years later they purchased a Trumpf 600L combination machine, and subsequently purchased a postprocessor from Bemet International B V Donatello Hartjes, Supervisor Parts Production commented; "It was clear after the purchase of the Trumpf that we would continue with a single system.
Two staff were trained when the Trumpf arrived, but all other staff are now trained internally.
We have people in manufacturing that also use it - if you understand the basics of CAM you can easily use it.

CAM update reclaims 2.1/2 months machining time
As a result of receiving a free software update under maintenance a fabricator is seeing up to 20% faster cutting time - free-form nesting module also paid for itself in under one month.
Sheet metal CAM programming time reduced by 30%
CAM programming time was reduced by 30% due to automatic features and the reduction of repetitive processes by Stored Engineering Knowledge Technology databases.
Multi-national standardises on CAM systems
Multi-national company now has a single standard CAM system in 11 locations and programming takes just 1h/day to provide all machines with programs for 16h shift.
We rarely need to call on Bemet for technical support." In addition to the Trumpf and Finn-Power, Exerion also has a custom-built machine, which inserts clinching nuts and taps holes.
An existing postprocessor was modified by Bemet to support this machine.
As Exerion's production runs 24 hours a day, machining time is of critical importance.
Many nests are repeat runs, but Exerion also produce many prototype products.
Jetcam Expert's comprehensive support of laser and combination machines allowed Exerion to configure their system for optimal performance using both technologies simultaneously.
Richard Tiggelovend, Programmer/Works Manager added; "Pre-piercing can take 2-3 seconds per hole, which soon adds up when you are cutting up to 600 holes on a nest.
We created a separate technology table within Jetcam that does not apply a pre-pierce instruction, but uses a pre-punch instead.
We also still have the standard technology table if we choose to run the nest using pre-piercing if required.
This can save up to 20 minutes on more complex nests.
One particular structure used to take us four and a half hours to cut - now we do it in just over 3 hours." Jetcam's philosophy of support and updates under maintenance rather than customers having to purchase separate updates has continued to deliver benefits to Exerion.
Bump nesting allows nests to be created by dragging and dropping parts onto the nest, with spacing and overlaps automatically accounted for during setup.
This feature alone has reduced programming time by 10%, which more than covers their annual maintenance.
Richard added; "We've seen that revision control has been available in the software for some time and intend to make use of that shortly.
We also want to make better use of the MRP to track items that were scrapped and need to be remade." Exerion also has a manufacturing plant in the Czech Republic that uses Jetcam to drive their Trumpf 600L and 260 machines.
The group has plans to add another combination machine, with a laser to follow.
Donatello concluded; "We've seen CAM systems that focus either on punch or laser technologies.
Jetcam is the only system that we have seen that can drive punch, laser and combination machines to the same level." Benefits achieved:.
- Multi-national company with a single standard CAM system.
- Laser technology tables saving up to 20 minutes per nest through intelligent use of pre-piercing information.
- Bump nesting reducing nest creation by 10%.
- Substantial reduction in machining time - a frame that previously took four and a half hours to make now only takes 3 hours.
- Users were mostly trained by other staff in-house.
All users only required 2-3 days training.
- Running a custom-built tap and clinching nut insertion machine using a modified postprocessor.
- Technical support requirement is minimal.
- Maintenance constantly delivers new features that pay for themselves.
