Lasers work and split brittle materials
Among various solid state laser developments to be shown at LASER 2007 is a thermal laser beam separation process to split brittle materials such as glass, ceramics and semiconductors.
Kodak produced plastic optical components using injection molding in Muehlhausen until summer this year.
With the opening of the new Muehlhausen site, Wahl optoparts expands in particular the capacity for tooling and injection-molding as well as for measuring tools used in the production process.
With this additional capacity in tooling the lead times for customer projects will be reduced.
The expansion of the injection-molding capacities does focus especially on high-volume products, manufactured totally automated.
Additionally, the Jenoptik subsidiary will also benefit from the comprehensive expertise in metrology, an essential requirement in the high-quality production of very precise optical components for imaging systems.
Currently Wahl optoparts has 12 employees at the Muhlhausen site.
Within the next years the site will be expanded not only for tooling and automation solutions, but also for the manufacturing of products with more than 5 million in volume.
